Soul Eater ~ Grinning Moon~
Synopsis:
The two main characters Soul (boy) and Maka (girl) are talking about why the Moon grins as it does in their world. Soul told Maka that’s because the moon always has something worth while to smile about – such as a small happiness in their regular life. For Soul, that happiness would be the presence of Make in his life. And it is the same way that Maka thinks about Soul.
Critique:
The author didn’t use phrases such as “I love you” directly in the article, but the conversation between the two characters has expressed how they think about each other. It leaves some spaces for the reader to ponder the characters emotion and leaves the reader to find out the answer themselves. It is a short but cute story that makes soul eater fan smiles after reading it.
Soul Eater ~ When Maka is hurt ~
Synopsis:
Maka (girl) was injured badly and no one was allowed to see her. It makes Soul (boy) very upset and he can’t sleep at night. Maka keeps calling Soul’s name from time to time even she’s unconscious, so Professor Stein decided to let Soul accompany her. Soul stayed with Maka and keeps talking to her. After two weeks, when Soul said “I love you”, Maka woke up and replied “I love you too”.
Critique:
The good point of this fanfic is that it attracts the reader with a surprising setting at the beginning, and makes the reader curious about the story. However, the author is not good at punctuation, and has many spelling mistakes, which makes the story unable to read smoothly sometimes.
Hyouka ~ The Second Law of Thermodynamics ~
Synopsis:
Satoshi teases Houtarou, a less-than-energetic boy, using the Second Law of Thermodynamics. Satoshi explained to Houtarou that because of entropy, in billions of year’s time, human might evolve to a completely different intelligent life which will revolve their entire existence around conserving energy. Conserving energy is what Houtarou tried to do every day, therefore Satoshi laughs at Houtarou that he’s the precursor of those intelligent lives.
Critique:
An interesting story which uses a physics term, and relates it to character’s personality. The author has interpreted characters’ temperament well, as explaining some particular terms and teasing Houtarou is what Satoshi usually does in the original series.
Hyouka ~ artificial flower ~
Synopsis:
Mayaka tries to attract Satoshi, the boy she’s in love with since middle school, by dressing up in a flamboyant fashion. Therefore, Mayaka is disappointed when Satoshi says those red ribbons and accessories don’t suit her. However, what Satoshi means is that Mayaka looks prettier without those meaningless accessories. And it makes Mayaka blushes.
Critique:
The author is good at describing character’s appearance and emotion. For example, one of the sentences used to describe Mayaka’s fashion is “Red ribbons occupied her head as her short coffee-colored hair was pulled back into a messy bun.” It makes the reader very easy to image how Mayaka looks like. However, this fanfic seems a bit out of character, since Mayaka is not really the type of girl who would do so.
Gundam Seed ~ Eternity ~
Synopsis:
The author fantasized the life of Cagalli (girl) and Athrun (boy) two years after the original series. In this fanfic, Cagalli married to Athurn, and Lacus married to Kira. One day, when Cagalli and Athrun woke up, they talked about their past that they used to be an enemies, friends, and then lovers. And they’re surprised at how life could be unpredictable since Athurn’s ex-fiancé is now his sister-in-law.
Critique:
The background setting of this fanfic is good, but the fanfic itself is not very attractive. I think the author is trying to describe the sweet life of the two main characters. However, it would be better if the author describes more about their facial expression or gesture, in order to portray their happy life.
